This is 3 of 5 trustee races that are on the CA Primary ballot. Yesterday vote-by-mail ballot mailing began, California! Feb. 20th is last day to register to vote, Feb. 24th select vote centers (183) open, including 37 open for 11 days, 146 open for 4 days and 25 with a drive through ballot drop off. Meet David Min, Candidate for CA 47th Cong. Dist. AND Rethinking Carceral Institutions

Today we begin coverage of the CA primary, a mere 5 weeks away. Community radio has an additional responsibility in this coverage as we all note the dwindling coverage of the OC politics in the area newspaper the L.A. Times. We first hear from CA State Senator Dave Min, one of the several candidates I’ll be interviewing, who are running in the CA 47th Congressional District, in the seat vacated by incumbent Congresswoman Katie Porter. In the second segment (approx. minute 31:30), is Shawn Khalifa who’ll be graduating this spring from the UC system’s UCI’s Underground Scholars program for felons from the carceral system and sends them off to thriving lives. Meet Tom Chomyn Candidate for Irvine Mayor AND Meet Congresswoman Katie Porter

Voting has already begun in California, among other states – it’s now 27 days til the midterm elections. The first guest on this show is tech sales executive and Irvine mayoral candidate, Tom Chomyn. The Orange Co. Power Authority, city council districts, and the Great Park are topics in tight rotation with city council candidates on this show.

In the second segment (minute 28:10) is Congresswoman Katie Porter, representing the 45th and running in the new 47th CA Congressional Dist. Assuming folks’ familiarity with the Democratic Party’s standard talking points, it’s a fine time to head into some other policy areas for a teachable moment covering: the Inflation Reduction Act, federal flood insurance, and the child tax credit.

Meet CA Congressional Dist 47 Candidate Scott Baugh AND Gun Violence Intersection With Elections

Both guests meet the listeners at this moment, the week before CA finishes the June 7th primary. First, the last primary candidate to speak on this show is Scott Baugh: attorney, Orange County Republican leader, and former CA Assemblyman. He’ll talk about his challenge to incumbent Congresswoman Katie Porter in the new 47th Con. District that includes the cities of: Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Costa Mesa, and Irvine. In the second segment (minute 29:20), Bethany Webb, member of the California Victims for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, speaks at the intersection of gun violence and the electoral choices we all make. Her skin in this game – her sister was killed and her mother wounded in the 2011 Salon Meritage mass shooting in Seal Beach. Continuing our CA 2022 Primary on June 7th, we start with Errol Webber, filmmaker and Republican (America First) candidate challenging Congresswoman Katie Porter in the new 47th District.
