“Covid in Custody” Premier at UCI AND Civic Notes from the Host

UCI professor Keramet Reiter, and UCI director Jane Page, and theater director Gavin Cameron-Webb, (minute 5:21- 45:10) talk about their collaboration that patrons can take in this weekend. The play entitled: “Covid in Custody,” is a docu-drama written by Jane and Gavin chronicling the establishment of an online archive of first hand stories of those held in California’s prisons during the COVID Pandemic. The show at UCI’s Little Theater is now postponed, please take note when listening to this interview. This podcast summary will be updated once the production has been rescheduled. Irvine Mayor’s Foreign & Personal Policy AND Examining the Presidents’ Calendars

This action packed show starts with Kev Abazajian, UCI astrophysicist and Director of the Center for Cosmology, who zoomd from the international to the municipal in this week’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks in 1915. On April 22nd at 7:30 pm, the Armenian Center in Santa Ana will host a somber occasion for the community to learn about centuries old and recent developments in Armenia.

In the second segment (minute 31:11), UCI political scientist Matthew Beckmann parses how American presidential schedules signal each administration’s involvement, priorities, and capacities; the subject has returned to our radar since the former president’s schedule’s eye-opening seven hour gap on 1/6/21.

Meet Candidate Diane Harkey OC Board of Supervisor 5th District

Today we meet another candidate in our continuing coverage of the CA 2022 Primary. Diane Harkey is the former mayor of Dana Point, former member of the CA Board of Equalization, and former State Assemblywoman; she talks about her campaign running for 5th District seat on the OC Board of Supervisors. The new 5th district includes: Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Irvine (south of I-405), Laguna Woods, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, San Juan Capistrano, Dana Point, San Clemente, and the unincorporated area bounded on the north by Antonio Parkway, Oso Parkway, Ortega Highway, and on the south by the San Diego County line. Other candidates running for this Board of Supervisor seat are: Board of Supervisor Katrina Foley; Kevin Muldoon, City Councilmember of Newport Beach; and CA State Senator Pat Bates, all of whom have been invited to appear on this show. The primary could become the general if any candidate clears 50 per cent plus one vote.

Meet OC Board of Supervisor Katrina Foley AND OCPA ‘s Opaque Proposition to Local Rate-Payers

Amidst the massive forces of: the stalling of climate mitigation measures in the US Congress, the undeniable disruption of Jan 6. insurrection, and the horrific Russian invasion of Ukraine…. we continue covering Orange County June 7th 2022 Primary. We begin with OC Board of Supervisor Katrina Foley, to talk about her campaign for re-election in her brand new Orange County Board of Supervisor District, the 5th District. This new district includes: Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, Irvine (south of I-405), Laguna Woods, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, and unincorporated area bounded on the north by the the Antonio Parkway, Oso, and Ortega Highways, and on the south by the San Diego County line.

In the second segment (minute 41:27), picking up where she left off last month, is Brand Lin, co-founder of Irvine Watchdog to spell out the juncture at which business and residential electricity rate-payers are, whom are covered by the Orange County Power Authority. A lot of action folks, not so much sunshine; a lot of climate aspirations, unclear about the agency’s commitment to those goals.
