Freeing Up CA Water Brain Trust AND “Growing Up in the Ville in St. Louis, MO”

Today our guests run the gamut of water policy to Black community. We start with Max Gomberg, formerly staff to the CA State Water Quality Resources Control Board, now independent consultant on water affordability and resilience. With his decades of experience in his seasoned takes on water management, we fly at roughly 50,000 feet, considering the consequential water policy decisions being made on all levels of government.

In the second segment (minute 30:00) local activist and retired higher education administrator Pauline Merry brings her new autobiography, Growing Up in the Ville, in St Louis Missouri, recently released by Great Tales Told Well Publishing. With this genre of Black history, is an uncanny education on lives lived in all kinds of communities. Ethnic Studies Rocks the Classroom AND America’s Unsafe Roads; With and Without the Pandemic

Emily Penner, professor at the UCI School of Education, returns to the show to speak to the theme of “pedagogy not politics of ethnic studies.

Meet Tom Chomyn Candidate for Irvine Mayor AND Meet Congresswoman Katie Porter

Voting has already begun in California, among other states – it’s now 27 days til the midterm elections. The first guest on this show is tech sales executive and Irvine mayoral candidate, Tom Chomyn. The Orange Co. Power Authority, city council districts, and the Great Park are topics in tight rotation with city council candidates on this show.

In the second segment (minute 28:10) is Congresswoman Katie Porter, representing the 45th and running in the new 47th CA Congressional Dist. Assuming folks’ familiarity with the Democratic Party’s standard talking points, it’s a fine time to head into some other policy areas for a teachable moment covering: the Inflation Reduction Act, federal flood insurance, and the child tax credit.
