Honoring Veterans at UCI AND The Culture of Fear, Why Americans Are Afraid of the Wrong Things

Today we honor two veterans affiliated at UC Irvine: Army Specialist Jessica Garcia, and Army Staff Sargent Tanishia Santana. Besides talking about their service and transitioning back to very busy civilian lives and student lives, these women spoke about their research that they are conducting toward finishing their bachelor degrees at UCI. Jessica Garcia explored healthcare for veteran women over the years, from Vietnam to the present. Tanishia covered her research entitled, “A Comparison of Military Sexual Trauma and Dispositions of Reported Cases in the U.S. Military and Israeli Defense Force.” More information about veterans services at UCI is at: www.veteran.uci.edu or on Facebook: UCIrvine Services. Barry Glassner; Sociologist, Author, and President of Lewis and Clark College talks about the continued relevance of his book first published in 1999 with a revised edition in 2010: “The Culture of Fear: Why Americans Are Afraid of the Wrong Things.” The discussion begs a new edition with the unfolding of events since the book’s last publication.       Honoring Vets AND The Culture of Fear
